Your Path to Canadian Citizenship
Becoming a Canadian citizen is the final milestone in your immigration journey. To be eligible, you must meet several key requirements.
Eligibility Checklist
- Permanent Resident Status: You must be a Permanent Resident (PR) in good standing with no unfulfilled conditions.
- Physical Presence: You must have lived in Canada for at least 1,095 days (3 years) out of the last 5 years.
- Income Tax Filing: You must have filed your income taxes for at least 3 years within the 5-year period before you apply.
- Language Skills: If you are between 18 and 54, you must prove you can speak and listen in English or French (CLB 4 or higher).
- Clean Record: You cannot have a criminal conviction or be under a removal order.
💡 Tip
Use a physical presence calculator on the official IRCC website to track your days exactly. Even a single day short can lead to a rejected application.
