Your Port of Entry (POE) Survival Guide
Your first interaction with a Border Services Officer is a critical moment. Being prepared with the right documents will make your entry into Canada smooth and stress-free.
What to Prepare for the Officer
- Passport and Visa/eTA: Ensure your passport has a valid visa (if required) and your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) document.
- ArriveCAN App: Complete the required information in the ArriveCAN app before your flight to avoid delays.
- Proof of Funds: Bring a recent bank statement or reference letter showing you have the required settlement funds to support yourself.
- Goods to Follow List: If you are shipping items later, you must provide a detailed list (Form BSF186) to the officer to avoid paying taxes on them.
- Address in Canada: Have your temporary or permanent address ready. This is where your first PR card will be mailed.
📝 Note
The officer will ask several questions to confirm the details of your application. Stay calm, answer truthfully, and provide your documents only when asked.
