National Occupation Code (NOC)
The National Occupational Classification (NOC) is Canada's official system for categorizing and identifying all jobs within the Canadian labor market. It provides a standardized framework used by the government, statisticians, and employers to collect data, analyze labor trends, and manage employment-related programs.
The NOC groups over 40,000 job titles into more than 500 unit groups based on the specific tasks, duties, and responsibilities of the work performed. The system evaluates jobs using a structure called TEER, which stands for the Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities required for a specific occupation. The NOC is highly critical for individuals applying to immigrate to Canada, as candidates must know the precise NOC code and TEER category of their work experience to determine their eligibility for various economic immigration pathways like Express Entry.
